Public bug reported:

Right clicking on the sound icon and selecting preferences there is no
hardware listed. There is also no input or outputs listed.

I can play audio through flash in firefox and mp3s in banshee but
anything else does not produce sound such as playing an avi or hoveering
over an mp3 on the desktop.

I'm using the beta of karmic koala.
