I uninstalled bcmwl-kernel-source (searched synaptic for "broadcom") and then rebooted, and then installed "bcmwl-kernel-source" and the wireless is working now. Also, linux-2.6.31-13 was updated today, so that may have helped. Jockey now reports the broadcom wireless driver in use correctly. please close this bug report.
