What does `sudo os-prober' say? os-prober is a seperate package. We just run it and generate a menu entry out of it. Fedora and PCLinuxOS should at least work. With Solaris it depends. If you use it on ZFS it can't detect it, since Linux doestn't support ZFS. Though there's some fuse ZFS but I don't think Ubuntu installs that by default.
