Public bug reported:
softmodem on HDA Intel Sound on Compaq nx6320 laptop, Jaunty 9.04, all
updates installed.
Modem works fine, in as much as slmodemd likes it, creates /dev/ttySL0,
and using minicom, it responds to AT commands, can dial and connect to
other modems, etc, however despite setting ATM1L3, I can not hear the
dial operation. This makes it very hard to troubleshoot problems where
the modem at the other end is playing up, or not answering, or when a
human is answering.
Under windows, the modem's sound comes out via the sound card.
amixer knows about two relevant-looking switches, called "Caller ID" and
"Off-hook", but toggling these makes no difference to the modem.
Google finds many other reports of the same problem, but no solutions.
