Sorry, this was a brain fart. ID_CDROM_* are the drive capabilities,
ID_CDROM_MEDIA_* are the media capabilities.
When I have the DVD+RW, I correctly get
ID_CDROM_MEDIA_DVD_PLUS_RW=1
