yes open the new desktop open terminal enter command gnome-session it looks like the video driver and xserver seem to have issues with compiz using nvidia 185.18.36 but xession does not recognize this in the /ect/X11 files but I do have it in System>Administration>Hardware Drivers or Nvidia Xserver Settings
