I can confirm the black desktop (I haven't tried fullscreen mode yet). However I have no idea where the problem might be. Strange thing is, the desktop icons, although invisible, are still there and clickable (if you happen to find one by chance).
I tried creating a new user profile to exclude broken user-settings. This worked for the first time, but all subsequent logins resulted in the same issue.
