2 thoughts on this: 1) kwallet/kmail got every right to be a PITA. If you do not store your password in the wallet, it will be stored in plain text, which is rather undesirable 2) kubuntu-default-settings in karmic comes with a default wallet, without password having 2 essential side effects .... for one it gets rid of the first start wizard of kwallet, and for another it makes it easier to use
