Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: gparted
1) Ubuntu 9.04 i386 2.6.28-15-generic
2) gparted 0.4.3-0ubuntu1
The device already had 3 primary partitions when I created a fourth, logical
partition of some size, with plenty of unused space left at the end.
I don't remember the partitioner requesting the size of the extended partition,
nevertheless it was created with the size of the logical partition residing on
it.
So far so good, but when I tried to create a second logical partition on the
unused empty space, the partition editor responded with: "It is not possible to
create more than 4 primary partitions. If you want more partitions you should
first create an extended partition. Such a partition can contain other
partitions. Because an extended partition is also a primary partition it might
be necessary to remove a primary partition first."
3) The behaviour I expected would have been the dialog for creating a new
logical partition and the partitioner resizing the extended partition to the
necessary size. (cfdisk does just that)
4) The behaviour I got is the inability of creating a new logical partition
with gparted.
The option to resize/move the extended partition is grayed out, so it
can't be done that way either.
