Broken hardware -- hmmm since older/other Linux-installers do not have any problems with the board/hd I would not suspect this. Reviewing the syslog though makes me think of a regression in the kernel...
BTW: the Suse111 that is already installed (and working perfectly well) runs with a pae-realtime kernel 2.6.31 from Jan Engelhardt.
