Daniel, I subscribed Dawn (and her friend Ian) to this bug report because her laptop had this issue. I'm told they have tried the apport-collect command you specified and it reported "no additional information collected". Is this because Dereck also ran the same command on similar hardware, meaning Dawn doesn't need to? Or does Dawn need to also gather information on her machine?
Just to clarify she's running jaunty on the laptop and has no sound. I booted karmic off a USB stick and also had no sound.
