There's a bug here: http://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/2629 It looks like it is about the panel icon, and supposedly it affects this other bug (about icon transparency): https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pidgin/+bug/447548 It mentions the blink effect... maybe it will also fix this bug?
