What makes you so sure it is VMware's problem? I think "we" (as in Ubuntu) should take this more serious. I have been using the exact same version of VMware Server including their remote console plugin for Firefox in jaunty and it worked flawlessly. The bug is new in karmic and the packages that come with karmic.
I am relatively new to the Ubuntu bug fix community but I would assume there is a way to escalate the scenario?
