Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: acpi-support

Im having a problem when opening the lid in a freshly installed Ubuntu
Feisty Herd 4, updated as of Feb 16 on my IBM Thinkpad T40. I have
gnome-power-manager set to blank the screen upon closing the lid. When I
open the lid, the screen is on, however nothing shows up on the screen.
I have to use Ctrl-Alt-F1 and then Ctrl-Alt-F7 to get my display back. I
have seen a few bug reports similar to this, like Bug #83320, however
there is one thing occuring for me that I have not seen on other bug
reports yet. If I hibernate or suspend to ram, I no longer have to use
Ctrl-Alt-F1 and Ctrl-Alt-F7 when I close and open the lid to get my
display back. It seems to come back without me doing anything at all.
This only lasts until the next reboot, and I have the same problem
again.

I will attach the logs of lspci -vv, lspci -vvn, dmidecode, and lshal -m
as stated in the other bug reports. I will also attach dmesg and
Xorg.0.log before I suspended to ram, and afterwards (note: there is no
kernel log activity after I suspended to ram and tried closing and
opening the lid). Judging from the logs, it seems like Xorg has more
activity before I suspended to ram than after when I close and open the
lid. Let me know if you require any other logs or information, and I
will be happy to provide them.
