Hi Pedro. I just installed Karmic on a virtual machine in an attempt to reproduce this issue as you requested. Unfortunately the situation is much worse in Karmic. It seems the new GDM included in Karmic does not provide a way to customize the login ready sound and, more importantly, provides no way to disable the sound either.
Please refer to the following bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-sounds/+bug/437429 However, as a workaround for this test I replaced /usr/share/sounds/ubuntu/stereo/dialog-question.ogg with a longer sound file (giving it the same name). The result is that the longer dialog- question.ogg sound now stops playback as soon as login is successful. In Jaunty, the sound continues to play. But all sound playback appears to be functional in Karmic after the desktop loads in this test, so that is a good thing. It's not quite what I was hoping for (I had hoped the login ready sound would continue to play while the desktop loads) but I probably would have disabled the sound after a couple days anyway. -- No sound after desktop starts when using very long Login Ready sound https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/448191 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
