Public bug reported:

I'm running AMD64 version of Karmic in an up-to-date Parallels VM.
The shutdown procedure fails at the very last step: Power down,
requiring manual stopping of the VM. I'm also running a Debian testing
(Squeeze) VM (similar setup, but still with 2.6.30 kernel), and here that
final "power down" step works fine. It is either a regression in the 2.6.31
kernel or a kernel config issue originating with Ubuntu.
