I added pciehp.pciehp_force=1 to boot/grub/menu.lst  and now the right
hand card reader works.

Again, if you add pciehp.pciehp_force=1 to the kernel boot line on the
latest Karmic 9.10 kernel, the right-hand card reader should work and be
hot-swappable.

Bug description:

udev only enumerates a device if SD or other card is already present
during boot.
