I removed, then reinstalled xscreesavers-data-extra, and selected the Sonar screensaver. This one crashed, and Apport came up, but then said it could not report the problem - "The program crashed on an assertion failure, but the message could not be retrieved. Apport does not support reporting these crashes".
I then tried all the screensavers past Sonar in the list, mostly actually previewing them, and those all seemd fine.
