* I did  `aptitude upgrade` from 9.04 to 9.10.
* On reboot, booting from linux-image-2.6.31-14-generic 
  takes me straight to the "busybox" screen. 
* Booting from CD, my root partition would not mount.
* I had to fsck my root partition before it would allow 
  me to boot to 2.6.31-14-generic.
* 2.6.31-14-generic works.  2.6.31-14-generic will 
  still consistently not boot. Tried the rootdelay=90
  option. Still no love.

AMD Phenom(tm) 9850 Quad-Core Processor
7495 MiB RAM
ATI SB700 controller onboard a Gigabyte Mobo
SATA samsung hd103uj drive
root is /dev/sda2  jfs
