I seem to have the same problem as 'rbrosli' on my Ubuntu Dell M1330
I've just upgraded the system and have subsequently lost the sound.
testing sound events:
'audiotestsrc wave=sine freq=512 ! audioconvert ! audioresample !
gconfaudiosink: Failed to connect: Connection refused'
Volume control gives the following message even though Gstreamer installed:
No volume control GStreamer plugins and/or devices found
