I'm the original reporter, still with the same laptop, an HP nc6400 with, according to lspci, "Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 3945ABG [Golan] Network Connection (rev 02)".
The blinking vanished with my upgrade to Karmic, I think - I am not sure because I had covered the lights with tape. Anyway, it now is steady again on current Karmic.
