This issue actually was a bug in notify-osd (see
https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/notify-osd/+bug/443979). It has been
fixed in notify-osd 0.9.23. I also wrote a remark
(https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=594522#c3) in the upstream
bug at GNOME's bugzilla to close it there.
