FriedChicken, your problem is that your printer was auto-configured under Jaunty and there HAL was still used for printing. In Karmic it is not used any more and therefore the hal:///... URIs are invalid. Printers auto-configured under Karmic will work as they will directly get the correct usb://... URI.
Everyone who has still print queues with hal:///...
