I can confirm this, the only hardware shown is a virtual "dummy output". /var/log/user.log shows only "Oct 24 23:13:00 ubuntu pulseaudio[4470]: pid.c: Daemon already running." because I tried to run pulse-session manually.
If I configure gstreamer to use ALSA, I can select a hardware device with analog output (as opposed to digital) and the test works.
