I wish to clarify what I wrote. The terminating 0x0d code is inserted just before the terminating single quote. So it is not exactly the last character, but next to last. For example: alias copy='cp -u -v' becomes 'cp -u -v<cr>' but displays w/ the final squote overwritten on the a in alias.
