This appears to be a duplicate of bug #457687, which has been fixed in
the latest grub-installer upload that will be included in the Ubuntu
9.10 final release. Candidate ISO images will be available later today
that include this fix (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/ISO); I would
encourage you to test these when they become available, to confirm that
the issue is fixed for you.
