Just some extra information: just tried to hang the printer on a virtual machine (virtualbox) running XP and there I have the same problem as on the linux host. However the test I described above, where the printer did work, was on a stand alone XP machine. I hope this gives some more information on where the problem lies. From this I would think the problem would more likely be the usb packages and not the hplip printer drivers, but I could be wrong of course.
