I'm not exactly sure what it does, but I guess it's similar to Stefan
Bader's --skip-raid suggestion (comment #7)...

A real fix would be kernel patch to make it not loop endlessly - this
has already been fixed in the latest release from kernel.org, and should
appear in the Ubuntu kernel too.
