58x135 is the *correct* dpi for your hardware.  Calculate it yourself:

  dimensions:    1024x600 pixels (451x113 millimeters)

X is giving correct information, it's just that your desktop environment
and/or applications are not behaving properly with respect to dpi, and
you should file bugs against *them*.

On 1024x600 screens I know it looks particularly bad, but that's sort of
just because of assumptions in other parts of the system.  It is
possible to override the dpi and force it to, say 96x96, via one of the
sub-dialogs in the Appearance settings dialog.
