Public bug reported:
Ubuntu 6.1 does not automatically install an i810 driver as it should for Intel
865 chipsets. Even so, dmesg will show the message
'agpgart: Detected an Intel 865 Chipset.'
That's the clue: /etc/X11/xorg.conf will need to call for an i810 driver for
the 865
(and a lot of other) Intel chipsets.
It would be nice if the Ubuntu installer figured this out for us ahead of time.
It knows enough to be using agpgart for something or other.
It should then pass along the i810 clue to xorg.conf.
