Sorry guys, but I seem to be having this exact problem in the released Karmic.
Dell vostro 1520. Starting with hw switch off works fine. Exactly same crash of smbios-wireless-ctl as in comment #56 ( posted as Bug #464449 ) Perhaps just need to blacklist vostro 1520 ?
