I apologize if my problem and fix is unrelated. I just upgraded from Jaunty to Karmic, I have the Atheros AR5212 chip, after I upgraded to Karmic my wireless card did not work, I ran ifconfig and no ath0 showed up. In Jaunty it did.
I looked in /etc/modprobe.d/madwifi.conf and there was a line: blacklist ath5k I uncommented that line and rebooted and now my atheros chip is recocognized.
