Subject: [Bug 464681] Re: Could not initialize the package information

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, the problem you are experiencing does not seem
to be a bug, but look like being caused by the system crashes. To
resolve this problem you may run the following command:

sudo rm /var/lib/apt/lists/us.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_jaunty-
updates_main_binary-amd64_Packages

and update the list of packages.

** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu)
Status: New => Invalid

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Invalid

Bug description:
An unresolvable problem occurred while initializing the package information.

Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include
the following error message:

'E:Unable to parse package file /var/lib/apt/lists/us.archive.ubuntu
.com_ubuntu_dists_jaunty-updates_main_binary-amd64_Packages (1), E:The
package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.'

Was the message I got, this was prefaced by my system locking up
intermittently, Ubuntu 9.04.
