the bug you had should be fixed.
The other thing about dns is fix committed in latest karmic dailies
here: https://edge.launchpad.net/~network-manager/+archive/trunk; there
we fall back to an ultimate dns in case modem firmware makes fun of us
and returns no or bogus dns information during ppp ... will be in first
SRU for karmic.
