Actually I just realised that it's probably pulseaudio that doesn't
work. Even though the daemon seems to be started:
3259 ? S 0:00 /usr/bin/dbus-launch --exit-with-session
/usr/bin/pulse-session gnome-session
none of the PA tools seems to work:
$ pactl stat
Connection failure: Connection refused
$ pacmd
No PulseAudio daemon running, or not running as session daemon.
I can't find any obvious error messages from pulseaudio.
