Hi I have the exact same problem since upgrading to karmic. I cannot open r/w an ods file on an nfs directory because it is said to be locked for writing by : unknown user ! I checked that there are no hidden .lockxxx files in the directory where my ods resides. The ods file has correct permissions.
It is not the fault of this file. I moved the ods file to a local directory and openoffice could open it in r/w mode. I moved another ods file from a local dir to the nfs dir, and could not open it r/w there with openoffice.
