For people reading this with the same problem and havnt yet trying to
boot from their new kernel.
Modify your GRUB boot menu (/boot/grub/menu.lst) like the follower
!!!Copy your UUID onto the spot notified down below (remove the
brackets)!!!
title Ubuntu 9.10, kernel 2.6.31-14-generic
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.31-14-generic root=UUID={Enter your own UUID
here} ro vga=795 splash quiet
initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.31-14-generic
quiet
title Ubuntu 9.10, kernel 2.6.28-14-generic (recovery mode)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.31-14-generic root=UUID={Enter your own UUID
here} ro single
initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.31-14-generic
