Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: software-center

When choosing "eclipse" in software-center, sofware-center installed
only the eclipse platform and RCP packages which are rather useless - it
only gets you the eclipse platform and the most generic perspectives and
text editor.

If you want to get a meaningful eclipse installation you'll need to get
into synaptic and choose the JDT and/or PDE (or the CDT or other
development kits if they were available in Ubuntu, which they aren't).

I think that eclipse should be either not available in the software
center, or otherwise it should installed the "eclipse" meta package that
pulls in the JDT and PDE.
