Just try the following: dig @<dns server that is broken>
www.bingabongobango.com AAAA

That will take quite a long time to return.

The problem is that when you install Karmic, you get IPv6, because of
that, programs that are IPv6-capable will start asking for AAAA records
As the DNS Server is broken it will not reply to the request. Thus it
looks like things are slow.

If the other PCs are using that DNS server, but not asking for AAAA
records, then all will be fine and you won't notice the slowness indeed.
