Andrew: Thanks brother. Found a thread that worked. All sweet now. The output volume was defaulted on mute after I upgraded to 9.10 (why the hell would it be?) One click and I was away. Loving this Ubuntu after a couple of weeks. Haven't bothered to touch my new netbook, with XP. Doug.
