Well, with Alexander we discovered this was caused by non-Ubuntu
language packs (ie, those downloaded from mozilla's FTP server). To fix
it, go to Tools -> Addons -> Languages, remove them all, and then
install the correct langpacks using the Ubuntu Language tool.
