You are right on.  I remember during the installation, it said
something like:  should menu.lst keep your custom setting?  It was not
telling me what it was updating. So i selected keep current.

I then notice, that my kernel was older, and manually updated my
menu.list to run the new kernel.  now i can see my audio hardware.
