This bug has been partly fixed in the recent Ubuntu versions (don't
remember which version exactly).

Now there is an option to specify "DHCP Client ID" in the "System >
Preferences > Network Connections > Edit > IPv4 Settings". Fritz.box
uses this ID as host name if not empty.

Is there any chance ubuntu could set host name as default value for
"DHCP Client ID" or any reason not to set it?
