I have a stereo set of speakers hooked to my sound card via an analog connection. I lost sound in mythfrontend when I upgraded from jaunty to karmic. To get sound back, I had to change my sound output device from ALSA:default to ALSA:surround51. My guess is that the default alsa device just won't work under karmic, and surround51 sends the output to the analog ports.
