Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: grub

I have a Dell Inspiron 2650 laptop. I went to upgrade from 9.04 to 9.10
and I was on wireless. It took about 7 hours from a site from MIchigan I
believe. The install asked 2 questions ... 1 If I wanted to keep 2
setting of which I do not remember the first but the second was for cups
2. I answered yes for the first and no for the second. I initiated the
"reboot" and that was the last I saw of my working laptop. I tried the
kubuntu irc and google and narrowed the issue down to grub. It was
suggested I try several things of which I tried testdisk and found
double listings of partitions and they were out of order After running
testdisk, I also noted that the asterisk was not listed at the primary
partition. It was then suggested that I try supergrub. After I
downloaded and ran this program, I started to find other google listings
of issues with grub and grub2 that other had. I tried various things,
even knoppix disk, to resolve the issue. I am using the Knoppix disk to
report this bug on the laptop in question. My computer first would
start to boot and hang at "starting up ..." then later I got into a
default shell but was not aware of what to do. I then resolve
somethings then got error 17 then error 15. I edited my root (hd0,1) to
(hd0,0) on both the new version and previous install version which both
reference ubuntu 9.10 in the listing and it started to work but would
not complete. I found information on the Ubuntu site in reference to
grub2. I burned a Kubuntu 9.10 disk and 9.04 but both would hang after
choosing english and the install option. I tested the disk in a PC and
it started installing just fine. I still have not found the answer as
to how to correct this issue and I am sure others will have the same
problem if the grub issue is not corrected. Please help me to resolve
this issue. Please.
