I've seen in various postings that there is a BIOS issue with this
machine. I suggest making the early resume force a BIOS video POST and
see if this fixes it. To do so, do the following:

1. modify the kernel boot parameters as follows:

open up a terminal:  Applications->Accessories->Terminal, then edit the
grub (bootloader) default settings file:

sudo gedit  /etc/default/grub

..and change the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT setting to:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_sleep=s3_bios"

2. Now run update-grub to pick up these new settings:

sudo update-grub

3. Reboot

4. Try suspend/resume, see if this helps and let us know what happens.
