I have the same problem, an i don't thin that is a duplicate of bug #424965.
Also I am having the same problem in two different computers where i upgraded
from a 9.04(Wubi installed).
The lines that i get, from my desktop computer (Intel core 2 ), when i shut
down is:
* Asking all remaining processes to terminate...
* Deconfiguring network interfaces...
* Deactivating swap...
[13285.360038]Buffer I/O error on device loop0, logical block 2560320

the system (ubuntu 9.10) cannot shut down the computer. the system 'freezes' at
the 'Deactivating swap...' stage with the information appearing [1885.040243]
Buffer I/O Error on device loop0, logical block 561159. the computer can be
only shut down by holding the power button for 7sec.
