Solved by brute force deleting pulseaudio and installing alsa:
sudo apt-get install module-assistant
sudo m-a update
sudo m-a prepare
sudo m-a a-i alsa
This makes the microphone work on skype. SoundRecorder throws an error related
to sound and doesn't even start.
But other programs like audaciuos, mplayer and skype work great.
