Thanks for the report. Skipping versions when upgrading is not supported
and might cause damage to your system. Please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UpgradeNotes. You should first upgrade
to 9.04 and then to 9.10 or do a fresh install. Due to this I have
marked this bug as invalid.
I think the easiest way forward is to backup your personal data and do a
fresh install of 9.10. It might be possible to recover your system, but
I do not know of any easy way.
