Hi Katatawnic,

Check the directory /boot/ for the files initrd.img-2.6.31-14-generic and
vmlinuz-2.6.31-14-generic. If the files are present go further with the
steps below.

Copy the original menu.lst to menu.backup.lst.

Open the file menu.lst inside /boot/grub/ in a texteditor.

Add the following rules under the rows that look like these ones:

title       Ubuntu 9.10, kernel 2.6.31-14-generic
uuid        6e08943a-8da4-4b93-8d5b-440e954dba61
kernel      /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.31-14-generic
root=UUID=6e08943a-8da4-4b93-8d5b-440e954dba61 ro vga=795 splash quiet
initrd      /boot/initrd.img-2.6.31-14-generic
quiet

title Ubuntu 9.10, kernel 2.6.31-14-generic (recovery mode)
uuid        6e08943a-8da4-4b93-8d5b-440e954dba61
kernel      /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.31-14-generic
root=UUID=6e08943a-8da4-4b93-8d5b-440e954dba61 ro  single
initrd      /boot/initrd.img-2.6.31-14-generic

Change the UUID with the UUID you see in the original kernel settings in
this file.

Almost at the bottom of the file you'll see a similar bunch of code. Change
in these rows the kernel link number to 2.6.31-14.

Now you're ready, Save the file and reboot... *If the reboot failes start
the Ubuntu live CD and rename the copied menu.lst from menu.backup.lst
to menu.lst and try it again.*
*
*
*good luck!*

Peter
